Meeting Schedule for the Year - 2nd Monday of the Month at 3:45
-
October 8 6-7pm will be a District Training (virtual). This will be our October Meeting
-
-
Purpose of SCC
-
School Improvement Plans
-
School Land Trust
-
Funds for this year are being spent on compensating teachers for a pre-school analysis done in August, purchasing a chrome cart, Math Aides for Tier 2 time, iReady subscription
-
-
TSSA
-
Funds this year spent on a .5 FTE (the district provided .5 FTE and we matched in order to hire a new 2nd grade teacher), Aides, Chromebooks, and for Goal 2 we fund the school counselor
-
-
-
Digital Citizenship/Safety - Sarah Larsen, school media specialist, takes care of during class time (topics covered were distributed in a handout). Also in April there is a Safety Week and there is a day for Digital Safety
-
Safety Plan (SNAP)
-
Nibley has been very proactive - 2nd crossing guard hired, flashing lights will be installed on 800 West
-
Nibley barely qualified under the “rural” status which enabled us to get the flashing lights - we would not have qualified as an “urban” town
-
Lights have arrived and will be installed soon
-
-
Parents have been wondering why there are 2 crossing guards at 800 West and 2600 South - why can’t we move one down 800 West by Heritage Park?
-
800 West and 2600 South is very busy
-
35 students live in Strata this year (a huge increase)
-
Maybe Strata can provide a maintenance person to help students cross 2200 South?
-
Sidewalks to be built on 2200 South but it is on the developer’s timeline
-
-
Where do our students live and walk from?
-
Our whole school lives within 1.5 miles of the school which is why there are no buses
-
Parents can organize “bike buses” or walking groups, but it has to be parent initiated and organized
-
Cindy is going to provide John with an excel spreadsheet with student addresses so they can be mapped and we can see where there is most need for a crossing guard - we can alter our safe walking routes based on this information and possibly move crossing guards. Thanks John!
-
-
-
-
-
Questions/Concern/Input
-
REACH funding was cut this year so there have been changes to afterschool club
-
Choir is before school and costs $40/child/year now
-
-
Meeting adjourned at 4:38 1st - Kathy, 2nd Jessica

Review of Prior Meeting Minutes
Minutes Approved 1st Kathy 2nd Kristen_
-
Previous meeting was the district training, any questions were discussed
-
Also discussed was the State Training - there is one more “live” training on Thursday, November 14 7-8pm, or you can access a recorded training here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pe1csnMneNs
-
Amendment B was passed, so the amount of funds available from School Lands Trust will be increasing to $149.53/student (equivalent to $5,000-$6,000 additional funds available for Nibley Elementary)
-
Discussion Items
- Welcome
- Website Review
- Paper was handed out regarding website posting requirements. Council members will review it and look at the website individually. If there is anything that needs to be added or changed, please contact Principal King and Audrie(who updates the website)
- School Safety
- Next month we will be finalizing our Safe Routes Plan. Nibley City has committed to coming to our meeting, Logan City will be invited as well
- Map of where students live was reviewed by those in attendance. We will talk to Logan City about providing a crossing guard to help children across 2200 South in front of Strata as a short term solution. In the long term, a crossing guard at 2200 South and 800 West will likely be needed (once more building has taken place) so the guard could be moved at a later date.
- How many children go to Thomas Edison Charter School who live and walk to Strata? The crossing guard would also be a benefit for these children
- Digital Citizenship
- Sarah Larsen will be doing Digital Citizenship presentations in January
- During Safety week at the end of October there was a discussion about digital safety during with students
- School Land Trust 2023-24 Report
- Test scores and goals were distributed - there is a question about the 5th grade mean progress using iReady as the diagnostic…would it be better to use end of year data? Or is the middle of the year data incorrect? The 5th grade scores for Nibley Elementary were among the highest in the district at the end of last year
- Goals need to be filed in February for last school year
- Nibley Elementary has gotten off of TSI because of the growth seen in test scores - yay!
- Additional Items for Discussion
- New school rule this year regarding no stuffed animals/toys from home unless the teachers have allowed their class to do so for a reward. There were issues such as losing things, theft, extra time for children to retrieve items before recess, etc which have been mitigated with this rule
- Book Fair this fall will be books only (no toys, pencils, etc) and credit card only. It will be the week of PTC and will be open during conferences

- Welcome

- Discussed goals and if they were met. All but the 57% median progress in math (whole school got to 54%) were met.
- Trustland Plan Data 24-25
- 25-26 Trustland Plan Discussion
- Measuring growth helps us to see where we are going
- Data Review
- Nibley Elementary is on par or greater than the district and state scores
- Safe Routes Plan Discussion
- Logan City was invited to our meeting but failed to respond to emails
- Logan city doesn’t seem to care about their citizens living in Strata - they have no interest in helping with crosswalks or other safe crossings
- Nibley City has been very helpful and has gone above and beyond with providing the school zone crossing and multiple crossing guards
- The only concern with the safe routes for Nibley Elementary is by Strata but we can’t “fix” it without Logan City’s help
- Logan City was invited to our meeting but failed to respond to emails
- Comments, Questions
- New Choir teacher to start in January, Mrs Kearl’s last day is Thursday so before school choir will continue this week. Next week there will be a sub so no before school choir

Technology Grant Funds Match
-
A huge thank you to Valiflo for their commitment to providing the match for the Fall technology grant - the total of $3000 was able to subsidize the cost of a new copier (which cost $8000)
-
Adam’s Wealth Management might be able to help with a Spring Grant
-
People can donate at any time, and we can hold the money until the grant window opens to get the matching funds (Generally twice a year)
-
-
Playground Update
-
Nibley Elementary is one of 6 schools to get new playgrounds this year due to the age of our existing playgrounds and how many children have permanent mobility assistance devices
-
The district has money to be able to slowly get all the playgrounds updated and in compliance with ADA over the next several years
-
The port-in-place is the soft, but firm surface, which is the main thing needed to get into compliance for ADA - it costs $35/sq ft
-
-
Playstructure Options - 3 choices for each playground
-
Swings are popular but only 1 child can use 1 swing so it is a large cost to benefit few children
-
Can we “mix and match” structures?
-
Decisions needed to be to the district by the end of the month - posters are in the Media Center and feedback can be given to Cindy
-
-
-
Review data from 2024-25 School Land Trust Plan
-
2024-25 Trustlands and TSSA Planning
-
Areas for potential funding
-
Parprofessional Support - needed since we aren’t Title 1
-
Technology Support - Google is supporting chromebooks for longer so we have a little breathing room there but we do still have chromebooks on their way out
-
PLC Planning Time - teachers found great value in this
-
Other ideas, comments, Questions
-
Could we update sound system in gym? There will be a PA system update in March-ish so we will see how that goes, but it might be good to get additional mics for the singing performances
-
We could update teacher computers that are out-of-date. Teachers prefer laptops but desktops last better and we can no longer give them both
-
-
-
Cindy will compile new plan based on SCC member feedback and present it at the next meeting for review
-
-
